Transparency, Accountability, & Representation
The Problem
-
Students often feel disconnected from decision-making
-
Communication from leadership is inconsistent and one-directional
-
Not all students have equal access to representation
-
The most important role of the SMOB is to keep students connected
My Solutions
-
Maintain consistent, two-way communication with students
-
Bring back the Monthly Minute to keep students informed
-
Host monthly town halls and livestreamed Q&As
-
Use regular student feedback forms and act on them
-
Visit every middle and high school at least once during my term
-
Hold schools accountable for following through on decisions like the grading policy
-
Create the largest SMOB Advisory Council yet, with representation from every high school and every middle school cluster
-
Rotate Advisory Council meetings across different high schools
-
Offer hybrid meetings to ensure accessibility regardless of transportation
-
Work with the County Council to explore lowering the voting age to 16 for MCPS Board of Education elections
-
Ensure every school (elementary, middle, and high) has a Student Government Association
