Building Better Schools

The Problem

  • Many MCPS schools have not been renovated in 20+ years and are overdue for upgrade

  • Aging HVAC systems (recommended lifespan: 10–25 years) are failing and negatively impacting learning

  • Ongoing infrastructure crises at schools like Quince Orchard HS show the cost of delayed action

  • Bathrooms are frequently closed due to maintenance and safety issues

  • Not all schools meet ADA accessibility standards

  • Overreliance on portable classrooms creates inequality and overcrowding

My Solutions

  • Prioritize the most underserved schools in the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) Budget

  • Keep bathrooms open, safe, and functional at all times

  • Ensure full ADA compliance and accessible infrastructure in all renovations and new projects

  • Commit to removing portables by 2040, especially as boundary changes are considered

  • Achieve Green School Certification for all schools by 2035

  • Expand solar panels and renewable energy to create healthier, more sustainable buildings
