Implementing Inclusive Lunches
The Problem
-
School lunch quality does not consistently meet students’ needs
-
Roughly 1 in 3 students have food allergies or dietary restrictions
-
Religious and cultural dietary needs are often overlooked in practice
-
Over 40% of MCPS students rely on free or reduced-price meals and deserve better
My Solutions
-
Improve the quality, variety, and nutrition of school meals
-
Ensure meals are truly inclusive of allergies, religious needs, and dietary restrictions
-
Hold regular student lunch surveys every interim to guide improvements
-
Increase accountability so “inclusive lunches” are reflected in everyday reality, not just policy
